Michael C. Runde retired at the end of December, 2013, after a long career as a nationally respected immigration lawyer. Before his retirement Mike was a shareholder of the firm and was a valued colleague and contributor. In retirement Mike will be pursuing further study at a leisurely pace and giving back to the community in volunteer activities.
Mike received his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame and his bachelor’s degree from Loras College in Iowa. Mike is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and the State Bar of Wisconsin. He was Chair of the Wisconsin AILA Chapter from 2003 to 2005. Mike has also served as the Chapter’s Vice Chair and Treasurer. Mike’s business and employment immigration practice included assistance to employers on compliance with an employer’s obligation to verify work authorization of employees and assistance to religious organizations seeking temporary and permanent religious worker visas. He was a frequent lecturer on business and professional immigration topics for employers and on religious worker visa issues at the national level.
Earlier in his career, Mike also practiced extensively in the area of business law and was elected a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy. He has served as past Chair of the Bankruptcy, Insolvency and Creditors Rights Section of the State Bar of Wisconsin; Chair of the Seventh Circuit Bar Association Committee on Bankruptcy Law and Procedure; and Chair of the Bankruptcy Section of the Milwaukee Bar Association. Mike has practiced immigration law throughout his legal career and limited his practice to immigration since 2000. During his two year term as Chair of the Wisconsin AILA Chapter he served on the Board of Governors of the national association. Mike has served on a number of national AILA Committees. Mike has been listed in Best Lawyers in America in immigration law. He has also been selected for inclusion in Wisconsin Super Lawyers Ed. 2006, and 2008-2013, in the International Who’s Who of Corporate Immigration Lawyers, and in M Magazine’s 2012-13 listing of Best Lawyers.
